Dakota Bread

Settlers coming to North Dakota established the fertile Red River Valley in the east with Bonanza farms and the vast grasslands of the west with large ranching operations, including ranches owned by Theodore Roosevelt. Agriculture continues to play a major role in the state's economy. North Dakota leads production in durum wheat, spring wheat, sunflowers, canola, and oats; second in honey and all wheat production and third in rye.
