Each year your association evaluates the Annual Session. The executive board, along with the Annual Session planning committee uses the evaluation information to plan and create a balanced program that meets the needs of its members. President's Message
Carol Schlitt (IL), 2006-2007 NEAFCS President
Dear NEAFCS members,
I hope you are planning to attend the 73rd NEAFCS Annual Session in St. Paul this September. Now is the time you should register, as the early bird special pricing deadline is July 7th. For more information, visit the 2007 Annual Session section of the NEAFCS website or to register now, simply click here.
Your NEAFCS officers met face-to-face for the mid-year board meeting during two days in May at the St. Paul, MN conference hotel. Several important decisions were made that will have far reaching effects on this organization. One decision made was to turn over the day-to-day financial responsibilities of NEAFCS to our management company beginning June 1 of this year. To meet our auditor's recommendations and best practices as outlined in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, NEAFCS has established financial policies and procedures to protect the assets of our association and as of June 1, NEAFCS will be in complete compliance. Our Treasurer, Robin Kuleck, is meeting with the management company at our national office in Dallas, Texas this month to ensure a smooth transition.
The treasurer's responsibility will now focus on financial oversight and closely working with both the finance and investment committees. In addition, the board voted to go to self-management of our investments. The investment committee will now take a very active role in the selection and management of our association investments. Their first job will be to develop comprehensive investment policies: something the association has lacked and which has been strongly suggested by our auditors to ensure that our association's investments are meeting established goals.
As you read in the April eNews, I have established an ad-hoc committee to look at our Annual Session - from how sites are selected and the role of affiliates and members, to how it is designed (number and type of sessions). This committee has been charged to develop a white paper and present their findings at the 2008 Galaxy III Conference. To aid this committee, a town hall-type meeting will be held during the 2007 Annual Session to allow the membership to voice their opinions as to what direction our Annual Session should take in the future.
Until next month,
Carol Schlitt
