Judith Edwards Breland, Vice President Public Affairs
One of the major thrusts of public affairs is to help members become "engaged" in the process of working with legislative bodies, whether on the local, state, or national level. The Public Issues Leadership Development Conference does just that. NEAFCS provides 30 scholarships to help with the cost of attending. Hear what some of our scholarship recipients had to say about the 2007 PILD conference.
Grace Wittman (ID), Professional Development Committee

President's Message
Carol Schlitt (IL), 2006-2007 NEAFCS President
Dear NEAFCS members,
Summertime and the living is easy . . . RIGHT! I don't know about you but for me July is a very busy month with fairs and other youth-oriented events. I guess there's just no rest for the busy.
I had the opportunity in June to visit with Maine and New Hampshire NEAFCS affiliate members at a joint meeting in Maine. Just so happens that the JCEP board was meeting in Portland, Maine in mid-June so I was able to meet with 30 members at their joint meeting close to Portland. I spoke to them about NEAFCS and also presented a workshop on Teaching with Conversation. The afternoon session took on an international theme with presentations on Extension international opportunities experienced by colleagues from both states. It was a great day and I thank Maine and New Hampshire members for inviting me.
I'll be representing NEAFCS at the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan this month and as luck has it, the Michigan NEAFCS affiliate will be meeting in Grand Rapids at the same time. I am looking forward to meeting with the Michigan NEAFCS members and in addition, Vice President for Awards and Recognition - Johanna Hahn - will also be present to inspire the Michigan membership to apply for the myriad of awards NEAFCS offers.
Have you signed up to attend this year's Annual Session? I hope you have because it is going to be a good one - one you won't want to miss. We've packed a lot into this Annual Session and it's shaping up to be one of the best ever. We've got a fantastic line-up of speakers, well-rounded concurrent session offerings, inspiring in-depth sessions and a fun Friendship Event planned. There's just no good excuse for not attending.
Keep cool - and for our members in Texas - dry!
Until next month,
Carol Schlitt
