In-depth Sessions

In-depth sessions are professional development opportunities that provide for hands-on experiences, many of which take place off-site from the hotel venue.  Depending on the session, an additional fee may apply.

Every attendee must register for the conference to attend an in-depth session. You have the choice of purchasing a full conference OR one-day registration for YOU and YOUR SPOUSE/GUEST.

Visit an old downtown bread factory which is now home to an indoor fish and veggie farm as well as a micro brewery. NUTRITION                      KY Initiative Accessing Nutritious Foods      University of Kentucky Butcher Shop UK Meats Lab Butcher Shop is a unique venture between students, researchers, UK Dining Services, and the public. Learn about the whole process and sample some of their specialties. Venue will provide tour of the University of Kentucky meat lab and Butcher Shop providing a detailed description of classes offered, items sold at the shop and where products are used on and off campus. 15/40 $10.00
KY Initiative Accessing Nutritious Foods
Lexington Farmers' Market Take a short walk to the back of the Convention Center parking lot to the Tuesday Location of the Lexington Farmers' Market. Enjoy a tasting session, tour the market, and visit with vendors. Enjoy lunch on your own at one of several restaurants down nearby Maxwell Street. 30 max. $5.00
KY Initiative Accessing Nutritious Foods
University of Kentucky South Farm  Tour the organic farming research at UK's South Farm and learn about the CSA program. Finish the session with lunch on your own at Ramsey’s, a local restaurant chain featuring locally grown foods and their famous pies. 20 max. $15.00
AGING                               KY Initiative Embracing Life as we Age Dementia and Care Giving Sanders Brown Center on Aging Learn about research on Alzheimer's research from leading experts, take a virtual dementia tour, and enjoy a brain-healthy lunch with Chef Ouita Michel of Holly Hill Inn.  15/20 $45.00
Human Development/Parent Education Initiative Nurturing Families Toyota Discover how a major corporation cares for its "family" members by caring for theirs! Toyota offers childcare services for employees working all 3 shifts. See how they make the Camry, too! 20/32 $35.00
HEALTH                           KY Initiative Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices     KY Arboretum The Children's Garden 2 of the 100 acres of the Kentucky Arboretum are devoted to The Children's Garden, giving children direct contact with nature, the outdoors, and healthy food. 20/40 $15.00
HEALTH                           KY Initiative Healthy Homes & Communities     Berea, KY Boone Tavern Hotel and Berea College See how a 100 year old landmark was refreshed to become the first LEED Gold Certified hotel in Kentucky, tour a brand new "deep green" dormitory at Berea College, and enjoy a delicious breakfast at Boone Tavern. 20/50 $30.00

TECHNOLOGY                 Social Marketing and FCS Extension In this hands on session participants will learn about the latest applications and platforms that can be used in marketing and promoting FCS programs. 10/20 $25.00
TECHNOLOGY                 BYOT: Bring Your Own Technology Bring your own tablet, pad, or laptop and visit with members of the NEAFCS Management team to discover how to keep up with current trends related to FCS Extension.  50 max. No charge
VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS Weisenberger Mills and Woodford Reserve Visit a mill where 6 generations of the Weisenberger family have used water-powered turbines to grind grains into flour and meal, then tour the Woodford Reserve, Kentucky's oldest (216 years!) and smallest distillery where those same grains are crafted into bourbon.  18/30 $40.00
TEXTILES Kentucky Textiles: Building A Business Visit with owners of two Lexington based textiles businesses as you learn about the Pomegranate Collegiate company that features the official Kentucky Plaid as well as items from other universities. At Q - First in Quilting learn what makes this shop successful as you experience making your own designed fabric. 10/20 $40.00
TEXTILES The Woolery Visit The Woolery, a family-owned business in the nearby capitol city of Frankfort. Learn about their mission as well as how to spin roving into yarn with a hand-held drop spindle. 20/40 $45.00
