Title: Relevance and Relationships: The Role of Family and Consumer Sciences in Improving the Nation’s Heath

Description:
Public and Land-grant universities across the nation are rapidly growing their portfolio of work designed to address the complex array of factors that are threatening the health of individuals, families, and communities. Many are doing this work through their respective Cooperative Extension organizations. Others are doing this directly through outreach and community engagement efforts of their academic medical centers of health science colleges. For more than a century, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), and more broadly, the human sciences in general, have played a central role in this work. This dynamic landscape is presenting new opportunities for FCS and human science professionals to communicate the unique contributions they have historically made and will continue to make toward improving the nation’s health. It is also an important time for FCS and human science professionals to engage with new partners from other fields in collaborative relationships that allow all parties to contribute their unique knowledge and skills in ways that ensure all people can live long and healthy lives.
